How to open PNG files in Windows 10

PNG files are one of the most widely used bitmap image formats today. They can be lostlessly compressed and created to replace GIF file formats. PNG does not support animations.
PNG stands for Portable Graphics Format and is free from copyright.
An image editor such as CorelDraw, PaintShop Pro and PaintShop Pro can be used to create PNG images.
Windows 10: How do I open PNG files?
Because it is pre-installed in Windows 10, the Windows 10 Photo Viewer program can sometimes be used to open PNG file. There are many ways you can view, open and/or edit PNG files.
Internet Explorer (and/or Microsoft Edge) among other web browsers can automatically open PNG files downloaded from the Internet. You can however also use CTRL+O for the file to be opened. To open the file in your browser, drag it and drop it.
There are many ways you can open PNG files. This includes standalone programs and file opening software. The most commonly used ones are:
1. FileViewer Plus is recommended

This tool can be used to create web pages, slideshows and export 70 different image formats.
4. IrfanView
This tool allows you to add new features and originality to your graphics. This tool supports Adobe Photoshop filters, as well as viewing PNG files.
This program can open PNG files and perform file searches. It also offers email and print options. Batch conversions are available for advanced image processing.

5. Additional tools
Google Drive, gThumb and other tools can be used to open PNG files. XnView, Paint (included in Windows), GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, and XnView are the best tools for editing.
Any of these programs can be made the default program for opening PNG files under Windows 10.
You can convert PNG files to JPG, PDF or GIF.
FileZigZag, Zamzar and other image converter programs are two examples. These online PNG convertors include FileZigZag. Any of these image viewers can be used to convert the PNG file, and then open it for editing or viewing.
These PNG files can not be used for all scenarios. Some may take up too much space on your computer or to send an email. Others may cause slow openings of webpages.
Consider image quality before opening one or converting it. Space and page loads are important considerations. However, the great thing about PNG is that the file format doesn't compress the image, which is the case with JPG formats.
